Interagency Ecological Program Larval Fish Volume
Number: Location: Cooperating Agencies: Project Chief: Period of Project:

Team: San Joaquin River Basin

Project Summary Information:

Statement of Problem:

A fundamental element of scientific research is the communication of study results to the scientific community. Communication is a critical element in research because it promotes the advancement of scientific knowledge, prevents extraneous research duplication, and provides insights for future studies. Although there has been considerable research conducted on larval fishes in the San Francisco Estuary and watershed, the availability of such information to others is extremely limited because very few of the studies have been published under any format. The fact that these data are generally available only in raw form limits their immediate use in resource management.

The goal of this project is to provide a forum for the dissemination of scientific research conducted on larval fishes in the San Francisco Estuary and watershed. This goal will be accomplished by means of an IEP sponsored symposium at the conference of a major professional society and publication of the symposium proceedings as a peer reviewed volume. The symposium and volume will be titled “Larval Fish Ecology in the San Francisco Estuary and Watershed.”

Objectives:

Provide peer-reviewed and edited articles to the senior editor for inclusion in the volume.

Revelance and Impact:

The completed volume will be of high interest to researchers and managers in the San Francisco Esuary and watershed in particular and to fisheries scientists in general.

Strategy and Approach:

The senior editor distributes submitted articles. I arrange peer review, review the articles as a peer, and conduct editorial review of the manuscripts. I then return the articles to the senior editor for final production of the book.
