Volatile Organic Chemicals in Surface Water Surface Water VOC Studies:

Volatile organic compounds in surface water will be addressed during the high intensity phase. The sampling will begin this fiscal year and will include a characterization of these compounds at the urban indicator site, Arcade Creek near Del Paso Heights. the sampling will include pre-planned twice-monthly visits to that site as well as storm samplings to determine the variability in concentrations of volatile organic chemicals and other constituents during storm water runoff events.

Ground Water VOC Studies:

The ground water studies may include an urban land-use study as previously described. Click here to view a description of the ground water studies: Urban, Sub-unit, or Rice. A total of 30 wells will be selected in the Sacramento metropolitan area. It is expected that drilling of these wells will begin either during the summer or fall of 1997. At present, little is known about the distribution of volatile organic compounds or other organic compounds in the shallow ground water system. Because of that, any plans for sampling the unsaturated zone will be deferred until the preliminary round of data collected at those 30 wells has been assessed.
