The Tampa Bay Pilot Project was an integrated science effort by the USGS that combined the expertise of Federal, State, and local partners to address some of the most pressing societal and ecological problems of the Tampa Bay estuary.
As a pilot study, the project served to develop a template for application of integrated research projects in other estuaries in the Gulf of Mexico. As part of this effort, the Tampa Bay Pilot Study IMS was developed. It was a web-based geographic information system (GIS) that provided access to spatial datasets pertaining to Tampa Bay, Florida.
The entire Gulf of Mexico Tampa Bay Study website, data, library, and internet mapping system (IMS) is a legacy site and is no longer funded by the U.S. Geological Survey. Much of the data and resources were transferred to the Tampa Bay Estuary Atlas (http://www.wateratlas.org). Users are referred to the Tampa Bay Estuary Program website for data and resources on the Tampa Bay estuary.
