Oahu NAWQA: Bed Sediment and Fish Tissue
Island of Oahu with location of occurrence survey sites, drainage areas (basin boundary), and land use (Hawaii State Office of Planning Land Use Districts, 2000).
Bed-sediment and fish samples were collected at 6 sites in the fall of 1998. Sediment and fish samples were analyzed for trace elements and hydrophobic organic compounds (organochlorine pesticides and polychlorinated biphenyls). Bed-sediment samples were also analyzed for semi-volatile organic compounds, organic and inorganic carbon, and particle size.
Sites were chosen to represent each of the major land uses on Oahu; urban, agriculture, and conservation (forest). Three of the six sites are part of the fixed-site network for surface-water column studies.
