Water Budget analysis for Water Supply Planning
Project Title: Water Budget analysis for Water Supply Planning
To provide an evaluation of the issues, limitations, and trends in the utilization of confined aquifers in New Jersey and to provide results of a water budget analysis that can be utilized to evaluate the interrelations between confined and unconfined aquifers and in an assessment of the role of confined aquifers in meeting New Jersey's present and future water demand under alternative management strategies.
Statement of Problem
In the New Jersey Coastal Plain, where confined aquifers provide over 200 million gallons per day, effective water resource planning and management under increasingly complex circumstances requires a current and improving understanding of the limitations of the available water from confined aquifers, the interconnections between confined and unconfined aquifers, and the sources of flow to critical portions of confined aquifers under present and project future conditions.
Strategy and Approach
Phase 1 will be to provide information about interconnections between confined and unconfined aquifers at the water planning area (HUC 11) scale under recent hydrologic conditions.
Phase 2 will provide information on critical isues, limitations, and withdrawal trends. Additionally, it will include a water budget analysis for each confined aquifer watersupply planning area.
