North Country School Students Visit Woods Hole
On May 12th, twelve 12-year-old students from the North Country School, Lake Placid, NY, paid a visit to the Woods Hole Field Center to see some laboratory experiments in action. The students are studying physicsconservation of mass, etc.
The laboratory tour, organized by Chris Polloni, focused on the GHASTLI experiments and sediment-analyses processes. The GHASTLI lab tour was organized by Bill Winters, Dave Mason, and Jim Booth. Handouts explaining the gas hydrate research (defining variables such as "triaxial shear strength") along with other Center material were custom prepared and given to the students as they watched the GHASTLI system process samples. The sediment lab tour was led by Larry Poppe, who detailed the types of materials collected and processed in this customized facility. The tour was culminated by a tour by Dave Mason of the sediment and sample refrigeration facility, a special request from the students.
