Frank and Lucy Manheim (WHFC/Reston) participated in a celebration and international colloquium on the occasion of the 100th birthday of Frank's father, Ernest Manheim, from January 27-29. Guests at the University of Kansas event included the Deputy Ambassador from Hungary and scholars from Hungary, Austria and Germany. An Emeritus Professor of Sociology at the University of Missouri, Ernest Manheim has kept mental vigor as he starts his second century. He and Frank presented a multi-year study on "ROCK: The Role and Future of Electronic Beat Music." Manheim Sr. fought in World War I as a young Lieutenant in the Hungarian Army (Austro-Hungarian Empire). He quips, "After losing that war, I decided I would be on the winning side in the next one"—and he was.
