Recently Published Articles

  • Butman, B., Anderson, S.P., Scotti, A., and Beardsley, R.C., 1999, Large amplitude internal waves resuspend bottom sediments offshore in Massachusetts Bay (abs.): EOS, Transactions, American Geophysical Union, v. 80, p. 250.

  • Chezar, H., and Wong, F.L., 2000, Año Nuevo to Santa Cruz, California-A photographic tour of the coastline: U.S. Geological Survey Digital Data Series DDS-61.

This interactive CD-ROM (http://geopubs.wr.usgs.gov/dds/dds-61/) contains over 500 overlapping photographic images of the California coastline from Año Nuevo to Santa Cruz. The images were taken with a digital camera from the R/V David Johnston in November 1998 to illustrate the coastal morphology and geology adjacent to part of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. Individual photographic images are linked to locations from which they were taken by data from the built-in GPS unit in the camera. Each image is provided in low (about 25K) and high (about 1M) resolutions. The striking images of the sea cliffs already have earned raves from geologists, coastal policymakers, surfers, and other coastal enthusiasts.

Stress induced by the 1992 Landers earthquake appears to have triggered the 1999 M=7.1 Hector Mine quake in southern California and may also have influenced the slip distribution.
