USGS booth at Marine Quest
Even a large fish is not turned away as Ivy Muntz (left, foreground), Kate Ciembronowicz (left, background), and Gina Brewer (right) stand watch at the USGS booth for Marine Quest 2001.
The USGS was again an invited participant to Marine Quest, the huge annual outreach effort by our neighbors at the Florida Marine Research Institute (FRMI). This year was special for FMRI because it was the first time they presented an exhibit under the new organization of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission (FWC). The date on March 10th was moved up about a month earlier than usual and the weather cooperated. Marci Marot organized a large group of 11 people from the USGS to provide continuous coverage for the large number of visitors. Sandwiched on both sides by two touch tanks with fish and invertebrates from Tampa Bay, the USGS exhibit held up well to such stiff competition. The displays on plate tectonics and coral reefs were of particular interest.

All the USGS volunteers seemed to enjoy the nice day. Thanks to Gina Brewer, Kate Ciembronowicz, Tracy Enright, Amanda Frick, Laurinda Frye, Don Hickey, Gary Hill, Marci Marot, Heather Mounts, Ivy Muntz, and Russ Peterson for participating and a special thanks to Marci for doing such a good job organizing the event.
