Gulf of Mexico Integrated Science Workshop in Tampa
USGS hosted an Integrated Science Workshop held in Tampa, Florida, on August 29th. Over 90
participants from 20 different agencies attended. Attendees at the first Gulf of Mexico Estuaries
Integrated Science Workshop chose Tampa Bay as a pilot study area. Presentations focused on
historical geology, water and sediment quality, bathymetry and benthic habitats, wetlands and sea
grasses, among other topics. A novel aspect of the meeting was its location at the Museum of Science
and Industry (MOSI), which allowed the MOSI science education staff to observe the scientific process
firsthand.
