On August 23rd, Fausto Marincioni, Frances Lightsom and Thomas Aldrich (WHFC) presented the Marine Realms Information Bank (MRIB) to the Gulf of Maine Digital Library team, meeting at the Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management. The team, including representatives of various U.S. and Canadian organizations, discussed strategies to reference online information, coordinate metadata production, explore models for data management and access, and attain sustainability and scalability.

It was decided that the Gulf of Maine Digital Library would be included in MRIB, with a customized user interface developed and served in cooperation with the Island Institute of Rockland, ME. Librarians from the Digital Library team will also be working with MRIB staff to develop ontologies for metadata and to characterize information objects. This is the first use of a subsection of MRIB for a specialized region or purpose.
