Quenton Smith-Costello
Quenton Smith-Costello (Menlo Park) has been selected to serve on the Western Region Special Emphasis Program (SEP) Advisory Committee as the Black Employment Program representative.

The SEP is a bureau-wide program that covers a broad range of functions, some of which were formerly addressed by the Geologic Division's Women's Advisory Committee (WAC) and Ethnic Minority Advisory Committee (EMAC). SEP goals include:

  • enhancing the impact of the USGS overall mission, vision, strategic direction, and diversity goals and objectives, fostering a positive cultural change, and

  • ensuring an open and communicative environment for cross-cultural exchange of information and ideas.

To achieve these beneficial goals for all employees, the SEP addresses issues and concerns of women, minorities, and people with disabilities in achieving equal employment opportunities. Functions of the SEP include promoting recruitment of women, minorities, and persons with disabilities; promoting education and formal development programs available through the agency or the local community; and supporting diversity programs and other cultural activities and awareness months.
