Oceanographer Andy O’Neill joined the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Pacific Coastal and Marine Science Center in Santa Cruz, California, in August 2012. She is assisting Patrick Barnard and Li Erikson with the development of the Coastal Storm Modeling System (CoSMoS) for assessing future climate-change impacts along the California coast.

Andy has a background in both oceanography and meteorology. She earned her B.S. in oceanography at the University of Washington in Seattle and her M.S. in physical oceanography and meteorology at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, where she worked with Jamie MacMahan investigating rip-current pulsation structures.

Andy has spent the past 11 years providing oceanographic and meteorological analyses to the U.S. Navy, primarily out of Yokosuka, Japan; most of her work has revolved around natural-hazard risk analyses, meteorological and oceanographic vulnerability assessments, and ocean acoustics.
