Virtual Tour from Bench Mark Lookout

Share

Bench Mark Lookout is located at approximately 2164-m (7100') elevation, to the west of the town of Polebridge, along the ridge between Red Meadow Creek & Hay Creek.  From the lookout you can see north, up the North Fork of the Flathead River Drainage.  To the east, the Livingston & Lewis Ranges are across the valley floor in the distance.  Coal Ridge is to the south, with the striking drainage pattern flowing down towards Hay Creek.  The Whitefish Range lies to the west, with higher summits visible up the ridge from the lookout.  Compass headings (azimuth) are labeled across the top of the photo, while location (Bench Mark, Flathead N.F.), date of photograph (09 September 1935), photographer (Lester M. Moe), and film type (infrared) are labeled across the bottom.  As the original photographs were taken from corners of the lookout, the foreground does not align well where the prints were merged, although distant features are aligned quite well.  To view the original photographs go to the Bench Mark page.
