B248 Fire


Light mosaic burn with light charring of understory throughout. 25-35% consumption of duff. Low 5-15% consumption of medium and heavy down fuels. Soil cover and color unchanged. 95% grasses, small shrubs, and forbs re-growing in understory; low amount of colonizers. 25-35% change in cover for stratum C; many unburned; deciduous shrubs that burned largely resprouting; about 50% of conifers that burned are dead. 75-85% intermediate trees burned, showing < 5% char/torch and 60-70% scorch/girdle for trees that burned. Moderate intermediate tree mortality. Lower ratings in strata A and B reduce total severity rating. Black Spruce/Tussock Tundra community.
