Hot Springs Fire 2004; 2005 Plot 4 CBI = 0.89




Patchy burn with light charring of understory. 50% consumption of litter. 20-30% consumption of duff with light charring. 5-15% of medium down fuels consumed, but over 30% of heavy down fuels consumed; remainder had deep char. < 5% change in soil cover. 50-60% of grasses, small shrubs, and forbs burned in understory, with fairly good survivorship. No increase in amount of new colonizers. > 98% of overstory trees are green with < 5% scorch/girdle impacts. No overstory tree mortality. Char height < 1.8 m. Strata C and D not rated. Low rating in strata E decreased overall plot CBI average. Mediterranean California conifer forest and woodland community.
