The U.S. Geological Survey celebrates 120 years in service to the Nation by hosting an Open House free to the general public at the Denver Federal Center on Saturday, August 28th, from 10:00 am until 6:00 pm. This event coincides with the 150th Anniversary of the Department of the Interior, U.S. Geological Survey’s parent organization.

More than 100 interactive exhibits and demonstrations will introduce people of all ages to the cool science of the U.S. Geological Survey. Make a dinosaur footprint, pan for gold, play hide and seek with the Global Positioning System, experience life in an 1840’s field camp, or speak to a real, live scientist. Tour the new National Water Quality Laboratory or our National Earthquake Information Center in Golden.

Interpreters for the hearing impaired will be available from noon until 4:00 p.m.

For more information, and directions to both the Denver Federal Center in Lakewood or the National Earthquake Information Center in Golden, please call 303-236-8961.

The USGS serves the nation by providing reliable scientific information to describe and understand the Earth; minimize loss of life and property from natural disasters; manage water, biological, energy, and mineral resources; and enhance and protect our quality of life.
