Maps and other products of the U.S. Geological Survey will be on display, for sale and as free handouts, at the USGS booth at the Sunset Magazine open house, this weekend, May 15 and 16.

The USGS, at 345 Middlefield Road in Menlo Park, is a neighbor of Sunset, and the sales outlet for the topographical maps that are often referred to in Sunset travel and recreation stories. Although USGS employees will not be selling the popular topo maps at the Sunset booth, they will have information on how to obtain them by mail or telephone order.

They will also be giving away numerous popular USGS publications, including "The Next Big Earthquake — Are You Prepared?"

Parents of GeoKids, the child-care center located on the USGS campus, will be selling earthquake souvenir items at the USGS booth.

Visitors to the Sunset Open House can find the USGS booth in the northwestern quadrant of the exhibit area adjacent to Willow Road, which will be closed to traffic between Middlefield Road and Laurel Street, Saturday and Sunday.

The USGS serves the nation by providing reliable scientific information to describe and understand the Earth; minimize loss of life and property from natural disasters; manage water, biological, energy, and mineral resources; and enhance and protect our quality of life.
