Gaye S. Farris of Carencro, La., is the new national secretary of the National Association of Government Communicators, a national professional network of federal, state and local government employees who disseminate information within and outside government.

Farris is branch chief of technology and informatics at the U.S. Geological Survey’s National Wetlands Research Center in Lafayette. Farris represents the Survey on the Gulf of Mexico Program’s Communications Committee, the USGS Publishing Issues Group, the Biological Resources Division’s Publications Group and the Biological Information Management and Delivery Response Goal Team.

Additionally, she is a member of the Council of Biology Editors, the Society for Technical Communications, and the International Who’s Who in Technology. Her most recent publications include "Our Living Resources" and "Making a World of Difference."

The USGS serves the nation by providing reliable scientific information to describe and understand the Earth; minimize loss of life and property from natural disasters; manage water, biological, energy, and mineral resources; and enhance and protect our quality of life.
