Menlo Park, Calif. — Cooperative oceanographic research between the U.S. Geological Survey and the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute is the focus of a public lecture by MBARI marine geologist, Charlie Paull in Menlo Park on Thursday, June 24.

Monterey Bay provides a 4,000-meter-deep laboratory for both biology and geology, yielding critical information on climate change, ecosystems, and environmental hazards. New oceanographic discoveries by underwater robotic vehicles assist scientists with seafloor exploration and mapping of marine geology and important underwater features.

President Obama declared June as National Oceans Month, to focus public attention on Earth's oceans and increase awareness of this precious resource.
