A strong earthquake, preliminary magnitude 6.8 according to the U.S. Geological Survey, occurred on Minahassa peninsula on the island of Sulawesi, of Indonesia at 7:15 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (8:15 p.m. local time) Tues., Nov. 25. The epicenter was about 170 miles (270 km) west of the city of Manado.

The USGS has received no reports of damage or casualties at this time.
