San Pedro River at Charleston (09471000), circa 1930

Image of San Pedro River at Charleston (09471000), circa 1930.
Photographer unknown, 1441, courtesy of the U.S. Geological Survey This downstream view shows channel conditions at the San Pedro River gaging station at Charleston. The gaging station is just upstream from a little granite narrows, which provides a stable channel cross section. The channel is wide with little low floodplain development, and the only riparian vegetation present near the bottom of the channel are low shrubs. Most of the riparian plants in this view are mesquite, although a cottonwood is present in the left foreground.
