River Surveys

River Surveys mainly comprise an unnumbered series of map reports, most of which were prepared in connection with the classification of public lands. Profile data from early exploration of the West were documented by Gannett in USGS Water-Supply Paper 44 (listed below). Later, profile maps were prepared from plane-table surveys and typically include proposed reservoir sites. Some river surveys by USGS were not published, and others were prepared by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation and other agencies (see index by Jones and Helland in Water-Supply Paper 995 listed below). Two surveys were published in Water-Supply Papers. Only published river surveys prepared by USGS are listed below, in downstream order.  [These maps are out of print]
